  • Old Town Action - May 8

    Old Town Action - May 8, 2009

Old Town is the Birthplace of California, but food service operators Chuck Ross and Delaware North are treating Old Town like a shopping mall food court. No regard for history. No respect for workers. No respect for Old Town. Mass Firing. Union busting. Labor Dispute. In Old Town, we deserve better.

  • Cesar Chavez Day March

Cesar Chavez Day March - March 31, 2009

On Tuesday, the San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council hosted its second annual Cesar Chavez Day March across Downtown San Diego. More than 1,200 union members made the five-mile journey through the streets of Downtown San Diego to highlight Cesar Chavez’ legacy, the need for the Employee Free Choice Act and rebuilding San Diego’s economy through unions. The afternoon-long journey kicked off with a large rally outside the San Diego Convention Center, which focused on the need to pass the Employee Free Choice Act in order to rebuild our economy. The rally concluded with a phone-blitz to Senator Dianne Feinstein’s district and Washington, DC offices. Throughout the march, labor issues were highlighted at the San Diego Marriott and Marina, Manchester Grand Hyatt, San Diego Civic Center and County Administration Center. At each location and along the route, curious bystanders took notice of our procession. The final location featured the procession storming the three terminals of the San Diego International Airport with chants of “FREE CHOICE NOW,” as well as calls for a fair contract for airport janitors. Four hours, four rallies and five miles after starting, San Diegans were aware that this is not just a military town, but a union town.
