(San Diego) San Diego Councilmember Myrtle Cole received an overwhelming vote of endorsement for the position of Council President from the delegates to the San Diego-Imperial Counties Labor Council last night. The Labor Council represents more than 130 local unions and 200,000 working families in the San Diego-Imperial region and is the local affiliate of the AFL-CIO.

“The Labor Council is proud to support and stand behind Myrtle Cole for Council President,” says Labor Council President Mickey Kasparian. “She has the values, principles, and respect from her peers to make San Diego a better place for working families.”

Cole was the Labor Council endorsed candidate for City of San Diego’s Fourth District both when she was initially elected in a 2013 special election and then again for re-election in 2014, when she won with 57% of the vote in June of that year. Cole is a Democrat and is the first African American woman elected to the San Diego City Council.
