Investor Education Program: Personal Financial Information Specifically Designed for Union Members

In these challenging economic times, union members are looking for information sources to help them make personal financial decisions. That is why we are happy to announce our partnership with the National Labor College to launch an Investor Education Program.

Working families face tough financial questions every day on topics such as saving for retirement or for college, from purchasing a home to preventing foreclosure, and the financial implications of a new baby, marriage, divorce, or the loss of a loved one. These issues are particularly important for distressed communities that have suffered from the jobs crisis.

The AFL-CIO and National Labor College have created an investor education website at http://invested.nlc.edu that offers commonsense, plain-English overviews of these subjects and more. This project is the only one that offers financial education specifically designed for union members and doesn’t have any sales pitches—it doesn’t endorse any products.

Our new website was reviewed very positively by David Lazarus, a prominent personal finance columnist with the Los Angeles Times and commentator on American Public Media’s Marketplace. In his Times column he wrote, “[Invested.nlc.edu] is a straight-shooting resource from the National Labor College and…is a good place to start finding answers at times in your life when making the right financial decisions really counts.”
