For their courageous stand for the future San Diego workforce, San Diego Unified School Board Members Shelia Jackson, Richard Barrera and John Lee Evans have been named the Labor Council’s February Legislative Heroes of the Month.

The three board members voted for the school district to begin negotiating with the San Diego County Building and Construction Trades Council on a construction careers project stabilization agreement for the construction work that will be funded with the $2.1 billion bond that voters authorized with the passage of Proposition S in November.

Jackson, Barrera and Evans have put their stamp on how the district spends its tax dollars – to build sustainable careers in the construction industry while also building quality educational facilities for our local students. The best way to hire San Diegans to work on projects that are paid for by San Diego taxpayers is through a pre-hire agreement like the one being negotiated by the School District and the Building Trades. Please take some time to e-mail them at the addresses in the bottom right corner.

The 120,000 working families of the San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council thank Shelia Jackson, Richard Barrera and John Lee Evans for their support.

Thank the board members who stood up for working families:
