We Can Make San Diego a Military Town and a Union Town
Lorena Gonzalez
Secretary-Treasurer/CEO
San Diego is well-known for its long and storied military history. From Coronado’s Silver Strand to Oceanside’s Camp Pendleton, it’s impossible to spend a day in our region without a reminder of this history.
Unfortunately, the men and women who bravely serve our country often struggle upon their return to civilian life. After 5 years of service, enlisted service members can earn $3,000 per month plus health benefits. But thousands of veterans come home to non-union minimum wage jobs with half the pay and no health insurance.
The Employee Free Choice Act can help change all of that.
Our veterans put their lives on the line by signing their names on the dotted line and enlisting. The nation they defend was formed by the Founding Fathers signing their names to the Declaration of Independence.
Veterans and their co-workers should be able to form a Union at the jobs they can find the same way they joined the military...by signing their names.
I hope you will join the San Diego Labor Council in our Fair Shake for Vets campaign by calling or writing Sen. Dianne Feinstein and asking her to support the Employee Free Choice Act.
Together, we can make this military town into a Union Town!
