FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Thursday, August 26, 2010

Workers Also Choose Alejandra Sotelo-Solis for National City Mayor, Pat Aguilar for Chula Vista City Council

SAN DIEGO - (Thursday, August 26, 2010) - The San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council announced today its endorsements of Felipe Hueso in the District 8 race for San Diego City Council.

Hueso, an attorney who specializes in workers' compensation, has spent his life fighting on behalf of injured workers and has a strong track record of standing up to corporate interests. A father of four, Hueso is a life-long resident of District 8.

"District 8 of the San Diego City Council is the home to thousands of low-wage workers and service industry employees," said Lorena Gonzalez, Secretary-Treasurer/CEO of the San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council. "Felipe Hueso has shown an unwavering commitment to fighting to increase the wages of San Diego's working poor. We believe that his long experience advocating for our most vulnerable workers will bring a new and necessary perspective to our City Council."

Local union members also endorsed Alejandra Sotelo-Solis in the race for National City Mayor. A current National City Councilwoman, Sotelo-Solis has been a consistent and passionate advocate for all workers.

"Councilwoman Sotelo-Solis has demonstrated a true commitment to bringing much needed change to National City government," Gonzalez said. "It's refreshing have a mayoral candidate who is committed to bringing economic development, good jobs and honest public service to National City."

The Labor Council also endorsed Pat Aguilar for Chula Vista City Council, Mona Rios and Luis Natividad for National City Council, and the Yes on Proposition D campaign to protect public safety and essential city services in San Diego. The endorsements were made at a meeting of Labor Council delegates Wednesday evening.

The San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council, AFL-CIO, includes 129 affiliated unions representing more than 192,000 workers in the region. For more information and to view additional endorsements, visit www.unionyes.org.
