AFSP San Diego Construction Hike for Hope
Join us for the Construction Hike for Hope, a community-driven event supporting mental health awareness and suicide prevention in the construction industry. This event brings people together to raise awareness, foster connection, and support lifesaving programs in our local community.
Participants can choose from multiple hiking levels and enjoy a morning in nature while engaging with resources and a short program. Registration is free, and fundraising is encouraged to support education, advocacy, and prevention efforts throughout San Diego.
The construction industry has one of the highest suicide rates in the U.S., and events like this help spark important conversations and create a culture of support.

MAY DAY
*Details for MAY DAY are still being finalized. We'll update with final location (it'll likely be somewhere around Downtown San Diego) and other details as they become available.*
May Day is more than a date on the calendar. It's our day.
For more than a century, workers around the world have taken to the streets on May 1 to demand dignity, justice, and power. This year, we bring that tradition home to San Diego.
Join the San Diego & Imperial Counties Labor Council, our affiliated unions, and community allies for a powerful rally and march to celebrate the working class and demand a world that works for all of us—not just billionaires and politicians who serve them.
We are organizing. We are striking. We are building power in our workplaces and our communities. May Day is our reminder that when we stand together, we win.
Friday, May 1 @ 4 PM

Unionizing Starbucks Baristas in Santee!
From Naomi, a local Starbucks Workers United (SBWU) Organizer:
Workers at the Starbucks in Santee, CA are voting in their union election on April 20, 2026. For nearly a month, they’ve faced intense union-busting: an influx of management and fear-mongering one-on-ones from corporate Labor Relations. These workers are exhausted and scared, and they need visible solidarity from the community to vote YES.
We’re asking union members in or near Santee to stop by the store throughout the week to deliver messages of encouragement and share stories of how their union has been a cornerstone in their lives.
Thursday, April 16: An open invite is already on the graphic, but if a small group of 5+ workers can visit together, I’d love to meet there, say hello, and take a solidarity photo. I’m flexible on time!
Any other day/time this week: Even general visits from union allies and members would be a huge boost in these final days. If workers can commit times or send pictures from the store, that works great.
Please let me know if you can help coordinate or spread the word. Thank you for standing with Santee workers, and for always being a fantastic ally to SBWU workers in San Diego.
In solidarity,
Naomi Martinez, SBWU Organizer

Cross Border Worker-to-Worker Meet-Up w/ LSAN
Cross Border Worker-to-Worker Meet-Up
The Labor Solidarity Action Network (LSAN) is a cross-border coalition of unions and worker organizations dedicated to strengthening worker-to-worker ties between San Diego and Baja California.
This gathering is our annual cross-border, worker-to-worker meet-up at the Casa Obrera office in Tijuana. This is an important opportunity to deepen cross-border solidarity, strengthen long-term relationships with labor partners in Baja California, and create space for workers to share strategies around workplace rights, economic justice, and collective power. Each year, this event provides meaningful and eye-opening experiences for San Diego union members who learn directly from workers organizing on the other side of the border.
Would you or someone from your union want a free seat on the bus to attend this historic meeting?
If so, contact ISOAVERY@gmail.com

‘Red Alert’ Hospital Tour in Oceanside to Save Hospitals, Protect Patients
Join us on Feb. 21 for the nurses’ national hospital tour to build power and community support across the country, with a goal of saving vulnerable U.S. hospitals from cuts or closure. Trump and Republicans have gutted health care programs like Medicaid — programs that keep our hospitals running — all to fund billionaire tax breaks and ICE. Together, nurses, patients, and our allies are fighting back against this cruelty, demanding a healthy society based on care and compassion.
This is a community-wide, family-friendly event with activities, a free children’s book, and free tacos while supplies last! There will also be a mobile health clinic staffed by nurses providing free wellness checks from 11am to 4pm. The rally will start at 12pm.

WEEK OF ACTION IN HONOR OF ALEX PRETTI, RN AND ALL OTHERS KILLED BY ICE
Veterans Affairs ICU registered nurse Alex Pretti, who saved veterans’ lives at the Minneapolis VA, was killed by ICE agents on Jan 24 during ongoing protests over immigration enforcement operations. Pretti upheld his oath to advocate for and protect his patients and community to the very end as a peaceful, public legal observer of ICE atrocities. Nurses across the Country are holding actions to honor the fallen nurse. While this vigil has been brought about by Nurse Pretti's death, we must never forget all those who have lost their lives in ICE's radical increase of enforcement tactics, we will be honoring their lives as well and call for justice.
Join National Nurses United RN members to honor Pretti and all who have been murdered by ICE, as well as demand that Congress vote to immediately abolish this violent, racist, and lawless agency that poses a dire public health threat to all of our communities.

Join us to support the Empty 2nd Home & Vacation Rental Tax - Housing for San Diegans!
San Diego's housing crisis is a class issue. While 10,000+ homes sit empty or as mini-hotels, the working class is priced out. The Empty Second Home & Vacation Rental Tax will ensure the wealthy, less than 1%, & mega-corporations pay their fair share for hoarding housing AND will open up housing for San Diegans.
To make San Diego work for San Diegans, we fight back by organizing and showing our power.
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
1. SHOW UP & PACK THE RULES COMMITTEE HEARING!
When: Wednesday, January 28
Arrive by 8:30 AM to grab seats before the SD Chamber of Commerce fills them!

Southwest Teachers Assoc. Rally!
On Monday, January 26, the school board will be meeting at West View for the day. Please join teachers and concerned families/community members after school from 3-5pm to show solidarity and support for our teachers who deserve a contract that is fair and gives them a decent raise.
In addition, we are calling on families who are able to keep their students out of school on Monday, January 26 BEFORE a teacher strike may take effect. We want to show the school board that a teacher strike will hurt because many parents will keep students home.
Attendance = Money in SBUSD, and money seems to speak the loudest to our superintendent.
UNAC/UHCP Kaiser STRIKE Kick Off!
Kaiser Permanente has $67 BILLION in cash but claims it "can't afford" safe staffing for patients. Its CEO gets millions while patients suffer long waits and nurses face burnout.
This Monday, January 26, UNAC/UHCP @unacuhcp @kaisersandiegounac nurses and healthcare workers begin an OPEN-ENDED STRIKE to force Kaiser @kaiserpermanente @kpscal @kpsandiegocounty to put PATIENTS OVER PROFITS. They never want to strike, but Kaiser's greed has made it necessary to protect patient care.
WHY IT MATTERS: A strike is the most powerful tool workers have to level the playing field with a greedy boss. When healthcare workers win safe staffing, fair pay, and a voice on the job, our entire community wins better care.
JOIN THEM! Your SDICLC @sdiclaborcouncil will be on the strike line this Monday, Jan 26 at 10 AM at Kaiser Zion to kick off the first day of this brave, open-ended STRIKE. Let's show massive union + community solidarity! Bring your signs, your voice, and your solidarity. This is how the working class wins big.
JOIN US for the UNAC/UHCP Kaiser OPEN-ENDED STRIKE Kick Off!
